I have had nothing but trouble with Microsoft's various Word's, from Word 6.0 which crashed, to Word 97 which crashed, to Word 2000 which gave me some strange Visual Basic Compile Error which caused the WP to refuse to print. It never did print, despite a reinstallation, and so in desperation, I deleted Word 2000 from my computer (some task as Microsoft refuses to leave once it bullies its way onto your system) and purchased a copy of WordPro 97, because I wanted a 'power' word processor with less trouble than the aggravation that Microsoft has been causing me. It is clearly a superior way to work with words, more intuitive, easier to use, nice pop-up menus, BUT...
The Spell Checker crashes.
Under three different operating systems (98, Me, 2000), all of a sudden, for no apparent reason, when I tried to add a word to my user dictionary, I get: "user dictionary in use by another program." Except it isn't in use by another program. And so, the spell checker just dies, becomes useless because you can't train it. I have played some magic on it to get it going again, like deleting the user dictionary which forces the system to create a new one, but all in all, it's a good, maybe great word processor needing a serious fix to this problem. Of course, the Lotus web site tells me little, and I refuse to pay a 'per incident' fee to 'the man' of my hard-earned money to get fix-it advice on something that shouldn't be broken in the first place.
All in all, I do recommend this word processor, its a beauty in terms of intuitiveness and user-friendliness. But come on, Lotus, fix this annoying bug!
I just wish SOMEONE would come out with a bug-free way to process my words: how about YOU, Lotus?? I'm TRYING to be a fan!
