(More customer reviews)I have been doing work with digitally subtracting backgrounds for a few years, and have tried many packages and add-ins, and I wanted to take the time to write up this review to say if you haven't tried this - you don't know what you're missing. It is worth downloading the trial version just to see for yourself.
On the positive side:
1) excellent control over adjusting foreground and green background removal
2) excellent color spillage adjustment controls
3) really nice touch in ambient color wrapping
4) unbelievable shadow creation and control, including blur and transparency
5) separate controls on foreground (extracted image) and background (added background image to tune against)
6) rapid silhouette feature creates unbelievable cutout silhouette with a key press.
7) ability to add mask to foreground image (either add or subtract alpha channel) - great for protecting green areas in foreground against subtraction - fabulous!
On the negative side:
1) does not import native raw images - you must convert to jpeg, tif or png or other format prior to working with the image
2) image sizes are fixed to standard sizes and resolutions - dynamic sizing of the foreground or background uses a control to size by percent scale. This is not a problem, just a limitation that makes it harder to use than other controls in other packages.
I spoke directly with the sales people to understand the 3 seat license. It is not clearly stated in the advertising but according to sales, I am able to use the same license on both my PC and my MAC, which makes this multiple seat license very attractive.
I had one problem with my order - the license key shipped with the disk appeared to be already taken, so I contacted customer service, and they gave me a new one right away. I am very satisfied with this, and with the level of service I received from the seller. After I installed it, registered, and activated the product, I was notified of an update immediately available which was a very reasonable 21 MB download. Update installed without any issues, did not require re-activation, and I was up and running in short order. If you do the update with the software open, it will take you a minute to realize the item must be closed to apply the update - there are no prompts, just an error message that it could not install the update. No problem - just close it, and install the update.
Just to prove the point, I took one of the images shipped with the product, and one of the low resolution sample backgrounds, and created a very impressive image in sepia tone using the software in under 5 minutes with no instructions. (Of course, that was after playing with the demo for a few hours...)
I am anxious to try the batch mode, but since the program will not import raw, it will be a little while before I work on that.
Wonderful - recommended! Just a great piece of software!
