(More customer reviews)There are not many racing games for the Mac so when a new one arrives hopes are high.
Overall this has been very entertaining. Modern race cars, rally cars, dirt racers, and a few "classics" can keep you at the controls for way too long.
The game runs decently on my three year old i-Mac but there are some glitches. A few of the track/car combinations stutter badly on my machine, rendering them useless.
Purists will gripe over some of the grids; when were there ever 12 W-196 Benzes in one race? Nevertheless there's much to enjoy with authentic sounds and handling characteristics.
The front engine, straight eight Benz sounds real and powerslides like it should. The designers did a good job getting the various cars to feel and sound right.
The tracks appear very authentic. When I watch real racing on the Speed Channel I often have a deja vu experience. Monza and Spa are my favorites.
Mac users might want to investigate "Total Immersion Racing" as well. It does not have quite the variety of Toca 3 but has run absolutely glitch free on my computer.

X-Plane 9 Review

(More customer reviews)I am neither a pilot nor a "gamer" but I used to enjoy MS Flight Simulator, and when I went exclusively to a Mac several years ago my only regret was that I has to leave Flt.Sim. behind. X-Plane 9, which I just discovered, is even better than I remember Flt.Sim.
I bought an inexpensive joystick (Logitech Extreme 3-D Pro, about $35 at Amazon), and then installed X-Plane 9 on my iMac. The installation took about an hour but it went flawlessly. The joystick was recognized by the program, and I was easily able to calibrate it by following the very clear instructions.
I selected the Cessna 172 as my trainer plane and a local airport as my home field (again following the clear instructions). The first flight was not a thing of beauty but I was able to take off, circle the field, and make a safe, albeit shaky, landing.
This is not a toy and some of the "gamers" who complained about the lack of instructions or the problems in controlling their aircraft were probably using jets and/or multi-engine aircraft for their initial flights, and expecting instant gratification.
I have substantial learning to do (and it's a steep curve) but even at this early stage, I can say with confidence that this is a superb and flexible program which is well worth the investment of money and time for anyone who wants to enjoy a true flight simulator on their Mac.

Polycom PVX V8.0 Application for Single User Review

(More customer reviews)The PVX software is very cost effective, and it works great. Just add a Logitech 9000 Pro and your good to go. This little program has allowed me to work from home much more, and flawlessly dials into other polycom and LifeSize conferencing systems.
You do have to be able to follow directions and set your firewall up with the simple configuration settings that are found in the help section of the application. There's nothing difficult about it though, just use common sense.
Try the demo first if your are a novice firewall user.
Also- be sure to download the 8.0.4 update from Polycom if your using a dual core or vista machine.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 Review

(More customer reviews)If you're one of those people who can't seem to keep balance on a skateboard no matter hard they try, this might be your chance to see what it's like. Of course, the only exercise you'll get will have more to do with carpal tunnel syntrome than scrapes on the sidewalk, but it's an appealing ride.
Unless you learn the more advanced tricks, you'll most likely be stuck doing elementary manoeuvers, and that can lose interest after a while. It's best to put a bit more effort into your play.
My main problem was that the software requires you drop in a disk every time you play. I've tried to install the software on my computer, with no success. It's a problem if you want to back up your data as you're playing - just when I have spare time.
Still, the software is not buggy, and the action is smoth.
