In a time of no hardcore helicopter sims recently released,this is a very good helicopter shoot'em up with a good flight model(in the games normal realistic mode) but has simplified weapons systems for getting into action quicker,though the 30mm cannon doesn't lock-on(unlike its sequel game) and uses the mouse ..and the rockets are purely manual as well and require some skill.
Skilled BF,BFV,BF2 Pilots will be right at home with this one..But if you can't handle the flight model in those games you probably won't enjoy this one either..(for those individuals I'd recommend Comanche 4).
Hardcore sim fans can still have some fun here until another hardcore helicopter sim comes out! ..maybe Lomac Black Shark! ;).
But this game is very much worth the few dollars you'd pay for it these days.
PS: the Manual and Command List for this game can be found in the games Main Directory. If you like this Also check out the games sequel "Apache Longbow Assault" though a bit harder to find and the gameplay is about the same.
A programmable joystick is recommended for both!

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 Review

As a student Pilot at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, in Daytona Beach Florida, I am very familiar with how aircraft perform. Microsoft Flight Sim 2000 (i have Professional [mmmm Mooney/Kingair]) is very close to the real thing. The downloadable real-world weather data makes it possible to go fly "right now" in curerent conditions. The aircraft perform how they should, plus you can try things you wouldn't dream of in real life. "Gee Mike, are you doing aerobatics in the concorde again? They have an extra 300 for that you know!"
Graphic/terrain Detail is superb. I can find and recognize airports & major roads (IFR = I follow roads) from just about anywhere and there are more 3D buildings to look at than ever. The weather looks fantastic (check out a thunderstorm in a 777 or a Lear sometime) You need a real fast gaming system to maintain playability though.
With the amount of end-user support for flight sim 98, you can be sure thet there will be hundreds of new aircraft to download, along with other new goodies.
Multiplayer is tons of fun, as several students and i fly together regularly. We even have a dispach student play as an "observer" in the tower view to act as our ATC, just like in real life.

IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 Review

(More customer reviews)I've been a pilot for over 40 years and have flown everything from '20s biplanes to Navy carrier jets...and this sim is awesome.
Note: it is on DVD not CD as stated here. And it is NOT a game. There is a significant learning curve involved to successfully fly these aircraft in full-on realistic mode. It does have 'simple' modes that make it possible for anyone to fly, but don't think of this as an arcade game in any sense.
Trust me, if you can fly these birds in full realism mode, with a little time flying under the supervision of an instructor you can fly the real thing. Here there are fewer cues (just sight and sound), but in real aircraft you also have so-called proprioceptive sensations too (the seat of your pants, for one), among others.
Buy it, you'll like it! The graphics are gorgeous, the scenarios are amazing. You won't find modern airliners, but you'll find most of the WW2 machines (Russian, German, Japanese, British and American).
A flight over the cliffs of dover at sunset in a Spitfire may bring tears to your eyes...it did me.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X Deluxe DVD Review

(More customer reviews)I am a general aviation pilot, flying single engine fixed wing Cessna type aircraft (4 seater). Flight Simulator X gives the feeling of actually piloting a plane. The plane responds to the controls much like "the real thing".
Like other reviewers, I must agree that you must have a great computer. I have a dual processor Pentium D 940 running 3.2 Ghz, 4 gb RAM, 512 mb NVIDIA graphic card. On my system, with maxed out graphics and scenery, it runs very well, with only an occasional slight bump in frame-rates. I am somewhat disappointed with the scenery, which is good in major cities, but still basic in the country-side. The terrain is good everywhere, but the structures lack detail in other than the cities. The detail on airport runways and taxiways is terrific! Aircraft list is extensive. I recommend it.

Combat Flight Simulator 3 Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this for the sole purpose of playing Over Flanders Fields: Between Heaven and Hell, a World War I add-on for CFS3 available at www.overflandersfields.com
Despite some known glitches like incompatibility with virus software and jittering with dual core processors (fixed with an AMD dual processor patch) CFS3 was easy to install.
CFS3 is good looking and fun to fly, but due to the limitations of the flight modeling it won't completely satisfy hard core sim pilots looking for the ultimate in WWII realism. For those wanting to add-on WWII planes, scenery, airfields, etc, there are numerous mods for CFS3 available at fan sites like www.combatfs.com (you might try Mediterranean Air War or European Theatre of Operations).
The Over Flanders Field: Between Heaven and Hell add-on is a fantastic addition to the game, and one of the few ways to engage in WWI era flight. The last great WWI flight sim was RedBaron3D, which never reached it's potential while Sierra/Dynamix was behind it. But over the years, a number of mods (Full Canvas Jacket, Western Front, Hell's Angels) made RB3D playable and more historically accurate. The authors of those mods have now taken CFS3 to unbelievable heights through OFF:BHAH, with high resolution scenery, 39 flyable aircraft, 3200+ historically accurate aircraft skins, the best campaign manager I've ever seen, etc., etc. The experience of flying a campaign in the OFF:BHAH world is simply incredible. As realistic as it gets.
I have played dozens of flight sims and FPS games over the years, and have to say OFF:BHAH IS THE BEST MONEY I HAVE EVER SPENT ON A GAME!!!
