(More customer reviews)As a long time QuickBooks Pro user, I had high hopes for POS, but this product is a disaster. It is simply unuseable without tech support ... You can't even email a question to Intuit. The fields are not customizable. If you have any need beyond the simplest retailing, you'll be stuck. No wholesaling, consignment, layaway, gift certificates. Lacks the most basic user friendly functions like drop-downs, macros (it takes 14 steps, including HTML coding, to attempt recalibrate printing price labels - NOT KIDDING - and you won't find those steps in the user manual.) Receipt and report layouts are barely customizable and lack basic information such as company name. Fonts cannot be changed are so small our customers need magnifying glasses to read prices. Interface between inventory, purchase vouchers and sales receipts very clumsy and cumbersome. Make a mistake on a long receipt and you have to start all over. No editing or overrides, even for password protected business owners. Intuit is squandering its good reputation on POS.

In a nutshell, if you are "stuck" with Quickbooks because you are upgrading and it would be too much trouble to start over with different accounting software, then this 2011 version might keep you going another couple years. If you are just starting out on a search for what business/finance software to buy, do some more research as there are excellent alternatives to Quickbooks. For multiple reasons, Intuit/Quickbooks are not winning many friends in the Mac world. Don't take my word for it, just read the other reviews.
In either case, don't buy the software without doing first getting the FREE TRIAL you can download from the Intuit/Quickbooks site. You'll get 30 days or 15 uses or whatever they currently have set up to decide for yourself if it'll work for you or not.

It has lost information and it took hours to get technical help on line and on the phone. We waited on the phone from around 10:00, ate lunch with the phone on speaker, finished our meal and returned from our kitchen to the office and still no one was on the phone. (More customer reviews)Our company has used quick books forever. Lately they have a new customer abandonment policy where they won't sell you the tax tables for the versions over 3 years old. So out goes our 2008 quick books premier in the trash and now we buy the "improved" version. At first I thought that it was going to be worth it because they have the ability to attach pdf files from your local hard drive to invoices. After the software got installed we learned that this is a service and they want to charge you a fee to reference your own files. Then we learned that if we were upgrading from 2010 we could get this free. Unfortunately, this is how a software company that has a corner on the market learns so rip off its customers. Now intuit is my business partner and I have to pay them monthly to be able to bill my customers and I have to upgrade my software to be able to make payroll. What a racket!!! Meanwhile I can hear my book keeper cursing because he is spending today looking for things that they moved in the application. Another thing that now sucks is that the multi-user package used to have 5 users. Now it is 3. While we have used this product for many years we always thought that if the budget would not support an upgrade in one time frame the product would still work. Now we realize that this is not correct and that buying the 2011 version has not only cost us the new version price but also productivity in the short run and the new features promised don't come with the software.

Sage Peachtree First Accounting 2012 Review

(More customer reviews)As noted by others, Peachtree is among the most paranoid and customer unfriendly companies on the planet. After purchasing their accounting software from Amazon, and after entering the serial number, and after initial use, the user is then required to take the time to call Peachtree to "Register" the product. No other option are available. Don't try to email Peachtree, as they don't care. Worst of all, as others have noted, the wait time to "Register" the product may take hours. Once the Peachtree registration folks are finally reached, then you will likely be placed on hold yet again. Furthermore (and Amazon should not like this), the Peachtree folks will tell you that unless customers order directly from Peachtree, then the customer will not be "pre-registered", which essentially means that the customer will be punished for using Amazon. All of this is important because many people ordering their first accounting software will want to keep the same software indefinitely, because it is laborious (if not impossible) to transfer all accounting data to another software later. If you order from Peachtree, just know that you will be stuck with poor customer service, and shameless software-directed pressure to upgrade after just a few years (through built-in software notices and warnings that cannot be stopped). That is why it is so important to choose the right accounting software from the beginning. In summary, if you are just getting started with an accounting software, do not purchase Peachtree Accounting. Instead, find accounting software backed by a company with some respect for its customers.

One thing is missing, which my daughter gave me and works great. OpenOffice.org, which is like Microsoft Office and opens all of my Word documents but is absolutely free. So our church council had no trouble approving it!
So yes, get this product, and get OpenOffice.org (here on Amazon, the OpenOffice.org Resource Kit book and CD), and you will have an excellent set of software.

(More customer reviews)While it's great to see Quickbooks on the Mac OS X platform, the program has two fatal flaws that most Mac users should think seriously about prior to purchasing and expecting it to work back and forth between Windows and Mac (roud-tripping) -
First, it won't allow for the download of credit card or bank statements like each Windows version since 2002. I suspect that was a very highly requested feature since it was touted at the beginning of the beta period but has not be implemented. Why?
Second, if a Windows file is open in the Mac, any downloaded credit card or bank statement information that was present on the Windows file that has not been input into the chart of accounts is lost when the file is open on a Mac (and therefore not even available on Windows when the file is sent back from a Mac to a PC). At least Intuit could have put that info in a "holding" location for use when the file got back to Windows rather than stripping it out completely.
So much for cross-platform compatibility and round-tripping.

I don't think most subscribers to their payroll service realize what Intuit does. You purchase the payroll software for a low price, but you have to renew every year for a MUCH higher price. It is ridiculous how easily we Americans are duped. BUYER BEWARE!!

(More customer reviews)In the quest to find a decent accounting solution for my sole-proprietorship (start-up), I tried and evaluated several trial versions of accounting software packages (QuickBooks Pro 2001, gnucash, gACC, MYOB, and Peachtree Accounting).
The good: Hands down, QuickBooks Pro is the easiest and most intuitive accounting package aimed at small businesses, on the market. I was able to setup the books, generate purchase orders, sales receipts, deposits, checks, with a minimum of effort. The only difficulty is figuring out the QuickBooks way of doing things, but once you do, things fly. I was surprised to find that it will even print out deposit slips (nice feature, especially if you take in a lot of checks).
The bad: Unfortunately it is also the most expensive software package in this class. Peachtree Accounting is about half the cost (but much more difficult to use [double-entry accounting]).
The ugly: Also, beware that the features included in this software package are a little misleading: Setting up payroll requires you to use their payroll update service ($). Setting up a "professional website" requires you to use their service ($). From the trial, I got the feeling that accepting credit cards also requires you to use an Intuit-affiliated merchant account ($?). I never went any further to investigate. Several "marketplace features" were discontinued.
Simply stated, QuickBooks is an intuitive, easy to use accounting solution for small businesses. However, I was disappointed in the QuickBooks Pro version, which charged a premium for features that either contained ongoing hidden charges, or are not likely to be used by most people. My advise: get QuickBooks 2001, not QuickBooks Pro.

Sage Peachtree pushes for upgrade every year, but actually you only need to upgrade every three years; they just don't tell you. I know because I've been using Peachtree for the last 16 years. If you want good support you need to purchase support every year which can be less expensive than upgrade. If you use the payroll you will need to purchase tax services as well. Support is apox $289 for single users & tax service aprox $269. So instead of upgrading just purchase support and tax service and you save program upgrade money.
