(More customer reviews)My 3 year old was really excited to get a computer game to use at home after mastering a few children's programs at the library. We installed this game quickly, and our daughter sat down to play it. She was quickly bored. Then frustrated. So I sat down and "played" through the entire "game" myself. It is awful. It's not even a game; it's an animated workbook at best.
The packaging claims: "Award Winning Learning Software*...*Awards cited refer to earlier versions of Sesame Street software series." That pretty much says it all. This particular game just does not deliver.
Nevermind that the voices and instructions are annoying, lengthy, sometimes hard to understand, often irrelevant, and impossible to skip. Nevermind that navigation is cumbersome, that the activities are completely boring, that the videos are low quality. But really, I spent $20 on educational software for a 3 year old--and it has factual errors? The "S" does not say "suh". The "S" says "sssss" like a snake. The "R" does not say "ruh". The "R" says "errrrr". I didn't have the stamina to listen through all the letters, so I don't know how many more are pronounced incorrectly.
Here's a quick example of "classification" gameplay: Bert and Ernie show up on the screen along with several clip-art style pictures of random objects. They tell a long story about how Bert lost his paperclips, Ernie hid them, and the child needs to help Bert find them. Ernie says that he hid them (for example) behind things that are green, things that have wheels, and things that fly. The child is instructed to click on objects that match that description. But wait a second--every object on the screen matches that description! So you click on one and listen to several seconds of dialog about how yes, that object matches the description. Then you do it again. And listen to several more seconds of dialog. This continues until you have found four paperclips. Want to play again? You have to hear the entire story over again. And guess what? Once again, every object on the screen fits Ernie's description. It doesn't matter what you click on! And if you decide that you can't stomache hearing the story again, so you'll just choose another game instead, you're out of luck, because your cursor has disappeared and won't be returned until after Bert and Ernie have stopped talking.
I am pretty picky when it comes to educating my daughter. Maybe that's why I have complaints about each and every one of the "16 fun activities" available on this program. But in my opinion, this game is so, so bad that it is being removed from our computer and I'm confident that my daughter won't even notice it's gone.
