(More customer reviews)I've used Rosetta Stone and I've used instant immersion. I've used private class rooms, I've used online programs, and I've used free "listen and repeat" programs. Instant Immersion is by far the least productive and least useful. It is so poorly produced, it makes you think you stepped back into the 1980's and just turned on your Commodore 64. Its essentially little more than a collection of words, with little direction or thought put into it. Nothing has hover bubbles, so don't expect to actually know what any of the icons mean or are. And once you successfully make it into the program, there is really no set plan on what to actually do. Everything this program has to offer can essentially be found for free on hundreds of different free language learning web sites, and frankly, those sites are just as effective as this is.
I never used the prior version but its scary to know that this version is the update! This is nothing more than "listen and repeat" with some horrible 90's graphics set to it. Worth about $5. I dont currently own Rosetta Stone Chinese, nor do I work for them in any way shape or form, but having used it before, I can attest: this is no Rosetta Stone. Rosetta Stone is overpriced, but if you use it, you will learn a basic grasp of the language. I challenge you, to use instant immersion for more than 10 minutes and not be so turned off that you never use it again. C'mon! Take me up on that challenge! :)
Don't want to spend $500 on Rosetta Stone? and don't want to throw away $30 bucks on this garbage? Go with any of the online programs for around $100 like Rocket Chinese or Chinese Pod 101 (I don't work for them either). Unlike Instant Immersion (which has white people clearly saying things in English just with Chinese dubbed over their mouth movements), those sites actually have culture lessons and show you how the language fits in, what is really said and what is really not said at all. I've been to China, so I can tell you, no one say "good morning" but for $30, Instant Immersion will blindly teach you how to say it because thats what their Spanish program does! Get my point? It just copy and pastes a database of words into their horribly outdated graphics and games. Nothing more, nothing less.
I thought the same thing you are thinking: $30 bucks? how could I go wrong! So I bought it. Now I know for a fact I will never be using it and I just wasted $30 bucks. Honestly, I'm not trying to sell you on anything except for the fact that this program is awful, outdated, useless, and just simply their spanish program overdubbed by a Chinese language database (which can be found anywhere online for free).
I'm definitely open to criticism, so if you feel I'm wrong, please leave a comment, I'd like to hear your thoughts, and I won't take it personally, I promise :)
