I almost never write Amazon reviews, mostly because I have so many things I want to do with my time. In this case, I felt compelled to contribute to the community to warn others about this product.
I purchased this Media Suite after doing several days of research, totaling well over a dozen hours of reading reviews, browsing websites, and so forth. My primary interests were CD burning, video editing, and DVD authoring.
My research included a very thorough study of Cyberlink's website, where I was led to believe this Media Suite included full versions of various apps, including PowerDirector, a well-reviewed video editor.
Soon after I installed the suite, I went right for the video editor, PowerDirector. Within minutes, I got a dialog box telling me that the feature I wanted to use was not available "in this version", and I'd need to upgrade to get access to it. Clicking the button to see what this was all about, I was taken to Cyberlink's website where I was offered the "full version" for another $60!
No-where on their website was it mentioned that the Media Suite included cut-down versions of the apps, and I feel cheated and ripped-off!
I've contacted Cyberlink's customer service about this, but so far they have not responded.
It's really not about the extra expense. It's about the fact that their website led me to believe something that was not true. At this point, I'm considering other software, including Nero's Multimedia Suite and Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 Suite. Since the box is now open, and I doubt Amazon will process a refund, I may give this to a friend.
Now that that's off my chest, I will say that this Media Suite does include a good variety of apps, and if you only need a "lite" level of functionality, this package may serve you well. Being able to tag media files on my computer is a nice touch, and the user interface is very attractive.
One other thing I'll mention here. The website was unclear as to the level of precision available in video editing, suggesting that you can cut a video clip "to the second". Anyone who understands the technical side of video knows that a second of video may contain 30 or so frames, and sometimes you want to cut a clip at a specific frame. Well, you can.
I'm currently using Windows 7 (64-bit) and have had no problems with this software other than it was not what I expected, and does not meet certain needs.
