I bought "Venetica" as a filler while waiting for the PC release of "Two Worlds II" (which was pushed back, then again, and again...). Given the large number of negative reviews this game received, I was surprised to find that, with a few exceptions, I like it.
The gameplay is fairly open-ended with elements typical of RPG's: gather information, run errands, explore mazes, kill monsters and collect treasure. "Venetica" does a pretty good job in this respect. Typical of most RPG's, there is a gimmick to distinguish itself from the others: you can enter the Twilight world to slow down time to either run away or get into a better position to put the hurt on the bad guys.
There are a few bugs and annoyances in "Venetica."
* The merchants do not restock. Once you've bought all of a merchant's healing potions, they're only good for selling your loot.
* The quest markers on the map are sometimes wrong (e.g., one quest marker is in the middle of the canal).
* The first boss fight is INSANELY difficult (the others are not as bad). I was forced to install a buggy trainer to get past this fight.
Opinions:
* The voice overs are usually good but there are a few minor characters that are laughably bad.
* The scenery is gorgeous and visually interesting. Extreme close-ups are a different matter.
Despite some glaring problems, I've enjoyed playing "Venetica."
